Your iPhone's value comes down to four things: which model it is, how much storage it has, its condition, and whether it is still locked to an Apple ID. Here is how each one affects the price, and how to find out exactly what yours is worth today.
1. The model
Newer models are worth more, and within each generation the Pro Max and Pro hold their value best, followed by the Plus and the standard model. Value drops each September when Apple launches a new iPhone, so selling before a launch usually gets a better price.

2. Storage
The same model with more storage is worth more. You can see your iPhone's capacity in Settings → General → About → Capacity.
3. Condition
A phone in good working order gets the best price. A cracked screen or back glass, a battery that needs replacing, liquid damage or a phone that won't turn on all reduce the value, because the phone has to be repaired before it can be reused. 4. Activation Lock

- Sell sooner rather than later: values fall over time and after each new launch.
